I saw another user had problems with charging a portable cooler, but since I am not trying devices that draw a lot of energy, I am happy with the product. I use it for my cell phone and portable GPS typically. This product was just what I needed in my car. My car (a 2001 Honda) only has one power outlet close to the driver, yet we frequently wanted more than one item plugged in at a time. Other devices are a portable XM radio and portable DVD player, used on car trips.
First time I tried to use it with a portable cooler (drawing 4 Amps) the plastic in the body fitting melted from the heat that was generated internally and the plastic fused the contacts preventing it from working ever again. It is described as suitable for use with portable cooler. Would be okay for light use (cell phones, pdas etc) but don't buy if you want to use it with coolers or other heavy current devices.
